After serving as Dean of Students at the Academy for Community Education, she became founding executive director of both Communities in Schools of Miami and the Burger King/McLamore Foundation; she also served briefly as CEO of the Humane Society of Greater Miami. She began serving a diverse group of organizations that needed an experienced, ethical nonprofit executive with excellent research, design, evaluation and writing skills to help them obtain grant funds.
